Fiat 126 Brush test/try

Hi fokes! This is my first thread here at autemo. This one is a Fiat 126, its my first try ever to "brush" it or what to say, it's far from great but it was a first shot. Really want some response to it because i know that it can be improved like three times. I'm using the program Gimp and not photoshop so you guys know

Here is the original car.

very nice try for a first :) I know my first try at brushing certainly wasn't that good.

Some tips for you -
If you want to start improving your brushing skills, try not to do an entire car to start with. Begin with things like wing mirrors, arches, side skirts. Little things like that. You'll have a much faster learning curve that way, because once you've mastered the smaller things - you can scale up what you've learned to start brushing larger things like full bodykits, bonnets, interiors, full paint etc.

Saying that, you've done a nice job with the paint. The thing that jumps out to me that you could improve upon is that the paint looks flat - almost matte. The reflections and highlights you've added don't pop enough, like the opacity of them is too low. When brushing reflections, keep in mind 2 things:

1: Don't JUST use the colour white to create reflections unless the car is in a white room. Play with colours too, it will look much more realistic. Use reflections to show the viewer the shape of the car instead of using light and dark.

2: Keep your reflections nice and sharp. Don't fall in to the trap of creating blurry reflections with soft edges.

You've done a nice job with the wheel swap too. Try using higher quality rims next time though. If you check out Donorcentral, or search through general chat/help you'll find some great donors to use at high res.

Keep it up :)
Hello.
what jacky boy said :P

gotta say it´s way better than my first brush aswell, and i have another tip for you wich jack probably forgot to mention :)

if you want it realistic, then you should use a reference pic, and try to use it to create your paint with help from the color sample tool, and i dont know what it´s called in gimp, but in ps it´s pen tool to creatce the shapes.

and another one is that outside backgrounds basicly always have a reflecting horison line, if the horsion aint covered from something else :P

keep it up m8, and welcome to autemo, nice to see more swedes here :)
